Best Restaurants in Lake Tahoe

The dining scene around Lake Tahoe has evolved significantly over the years. What was once mostly après-ski pub food and casual lakeside dining has grown into a genuinely interesting restaurant landscape — with several standout spots that would hold their own in any major city. These are the restaurants I return to regularly and recommend without hesitation.

Edgewood Restaurant — South Lake Tahoe

The dining room at Edgewood Tahoe is one of the most stunning settings for a meal I can think of — floor-to-ceiling views of the lake, a refined menu that celebrates California and Nevada produce, and a wine list that covers serious ground. This is where I recommend for celebratory dinners or anyone who wants to experience Tahoe at its most elegant. The service is exceptional and the food matches the view.

Manzanita at The Ritz-Carlton Northstar — Olympic Valley

Manzanita is the signature restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Northstar and earns its place as one of the top dining experiences in the Tahoe area. The menu leans seasonal and local, with the kind of attention to craft you expect from a Ritz property but with a mountain lodge warmth that keeps it from feeling stuffy. Perfect for a slow winter dinner after skiing, or a summer evening when the weather makes everything feel magical.

Rookies Sports Bar — Kings Beach

Not every meal needs to be refined. Rookies in Kings Beach is a local staple — affordable, casual, and genuinely good. Great burgers, cold beer, and the kind of unpretentious vibe that makes it feel like somewhere you’d find on your own rather than on a list. When you just want something easy and satisfying after a day outdoors, this is where locals go.

Gar Woods Grill & Pier — Carnelian Bay

For the quintessential Tahoe dining experience — right on the water, with classic American fare and the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re exactly where you should be — Gar Woods is hard to beat. The Wet Woody cocktails are legendary among Tahoe regulars, the food is solid and well-executed, and the deck in summer is one of the finest places to spend a long, lazy afternoon. It captures Tahoe in a way that few restaurants do.

A Note From Kristina

I spend a lot of time in the Tahoe area and eating well is a non-negotiable part of any trip for me. These spots represent what the area does best — from the most elevated fine dining to the spots where locals actually eat on a Tuesday night. If you’re planning a trip to Lake Tahoe and want help building out the full experience — where to stay, where to eat, what to do based on the season — I’m always happy to help. As a Fora travel advisor, I can also often secure perks at the area’s top hotels that make the whole trip feel a little more special. Reach out anytime.
